Cases from Personal Experience
  • GST/HST
An Uber driver (self-employed) found himself in a tax audit, as his tax return showed a deficit as well as a return of $1,200 in GST/HST without reasonable explanation.

    =>The audit was handled successfully.
The sum of the GST/HST refund was confirmed to be $800.
The client decided not to appeal the additional $400.
  • Personal Income Tax
A non-resident, who had a source of income in Canada, did not file taxes over the course of 5 years. As a result, she had to pay a sum of $17,000 in unpaid taxes.

=>I convinced Revenue Canada to reinstate the deadline to file the taxes and all declarations were submitted. Revenue Canada recalled all demands and paid a refund in the amount of $3,000.
  • Corporate deficit
The owner of a corporation, with an accumulated deficit of more than $300,000, wanted advice on how to use this deficit to decrease his personal income tax from payroll.

=>Documents were prepared, and Revenue Canada's audit was handled successfully. The client has been using the deficit for five years now to decrease his personal income tax.
  • Personal Income Tax
A client had been filing tax returns for six years, without knowing about her right to apply expenses related to her job responsibilities in order to decrease taxable income.

=>Adjustments to the tax returns were prepared and submitted. The client received tax refunds in the sum of $10,000.
  • GST/HST
A client incorrectly filled paperwork for the sale of his business, leading to a demand from Revenue Canada to pay an accumulated GST/HST sum of $32,000 to account for 3 years.

=> The situation was resolved. The demand was annulled.
  • GST/HST
A corporate accountant prepared a GST/HST return with a refund in the amount of $6,000 in the corporation's books. Fearing an audit due to the large sum, she submitted an artificial GST/HST return with a balance owing of $200.

=> During consultation, a strategy was developed to split this amount between some future GST/HST returns.
The first $1,500 have already been refunded. The tax audit was handled successfully.
